The moist, tender, and rich flavor of this yellow cake with chocolate frosting will remind you of those irresistible homemade cakes your mother or grandmother use to make. Butter lends its decadent flavor to both the cake and the frosting, creating a heavenly taste your fork can’t say no to.
From our Found Recipes cookbook, we brought this bonnie butter cake recipe back after we took a bite (ate the entire piece) and discovered its amazing taste and delightful texture. The cake is light and fluffy with a intoxicating vanilla-butter homespun flavor, and slices beautifully for serving. The silky-smooth chocolate frosting is as impressive as the cake itself, a decadent topping that perfectly complements this exceptional dessert. We dare you to take just one bite!
Our easy-to-follow bonnie butter cake recipe lets you create a single-layer cake perfect for casual gatherings, or a two-layer cake for special occasions like birthdays and anniversaries. Add your favorite sprinkles for a festive touch, customizing them to match any celebration.

Dusting pans with flour help them to release easily after baking. Place a tablespoon or two of flour in a pas after greasing it. Rotate the pan so flour sticks to the entire surface--bottom and sides. Dump any excess flour into the sink, tapping the pan to remove any excess.
To accurately measure the flour and powdered sugar, spoon them into a dry measuring cup and level off with a straight edge. Don't scoop the measuring cup into the flour or powdered sugar--it can get packed down as it sits, making it more likely you'll add too much and the cake will be dry.
To decorate the cake as we have done in the photo, save some of the frosting to put into a bag with a star tip. Pipe it in swirls over the top of the frosted cake. Place sprinkles in your hand and gently press them into the cake. Scatter the top with more sprinkles.
