What is a pear dump cake? It's a rustic, fruit-filled dessert—more akin to a cobbler or crisp than a traditional cake. The name says it all: ingredients are simply "dumped" into the pan—fruit first, followed by a dry cake mix. Melted butter is drizzled over the top, adding moisture and richness.
Our version, from our A Piece of Cake cookbook, features juicy, ripe pears and the warm spice of crystallized ginger for a comforting, sweet combination. A simple cake mix, made with pantry staples, is sprinkled over the pears, forming the base of the dessert. Then comes the decadent part: melted butter, a rich caramel topping, and crunchy pecans elevate the flavors and textures.
This easy pear dump cake requires only 15 minutes of prep time and is best served warm, when the flavors are at their peak. A scoop of vanilla ice cream is the perfect complement, melting into the warm cake and enhancing the buttery caramel and spiced pear flavors. Make any dinner a little more special with this delightful dessert.

Mix in medium bowl, mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt; sprinkle evenly over pears, spreading smoothly with back of spoon.
Drizzle with melted butter and caramel topping; sprinkle with pecans.
Bake 35 to 40 minutes or until pear are tender. Serve warm with ice cream.
You can use any type of ripe pears in this homespun dessert.
Hasten the pear ripening by placing them in a lunch-size paper bag with an apple. Close the bag and leave it on the counter for a few days. The apple will help the pears ripen faster.
You can substitute 1/2 package (about 1 1/2 cups) of Super Moist™ yellow or white cake mix (dry) for the cake mixture.
