These decadent 5-ingredient bars combine layers of chocolate chip cookies and a fudgy chocolate filling made with a genius secret ingredient—Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy chocolate frosting. They're impressive enough for a special occasion, but easy enough for weeknight baking, too.
Swapping in Betty Crocker’s new Lower Sugar Baking Mixes and Frosting is an easy way to reduce the sugar in these fudgy cookie bars. You can enjoy the same great taste and same ease of prep. Read below for the simple steps.
Swap Betty Crocker™ Lower Sugar Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix for the original cookie mix. Use the amounts of butter and egg called for on the lower sugar packaging.
Replace the original chocolate frosting with Betty Crocker™ Lower Sugar Milk Chocolate Frosting. Blend with the cream cheese as directed in Step 3 for a chocolaty lower sugar filling.
Set aside 1/2 cup of the cookie dough to use as the topping. Press remaining cookie dough into bottom or sprayed 9-inch square pan. Spread frosting mixture on top of cookie dough base. Crumble reserved 1/2 cup of cookie dough over top.
Bake the bars about 30 minutes. The bars are done when a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean and bars are golden brown. The bars need to cool on a cooling rack for about an hour and a half to set up before cutting.
Replacing the original cookie mix and frosting with Betty’s new lower sugar products reduces the total grams of sugar per serving from 20 grams to 11 grams without sacrificing the indulgence.
