Don’t have heart shaped pans? You can bake the cakes in 2 8” round pans and make a parchment paper stencil to trim the cakes into a heart shape. Start by cutting an 8-inch circle out of parchment paper. Then, make two diagonal cuts from the bottom of your circle about half-way up on either side, forming a point. (After cutting, you should have two semicircular pieces of parchment paper, which you can discard.) Frost the top of the first cake and stack the second one on top. Place the stencil on top of the cakes, aligning the point of the stencil with the bottom of the cake. Use a serrated knife to slice along the edges of the stencil, forming a point at the bottom of the cakes. After cutting, you should have 4 equal semi circles of cake. Use frosting to glue the semicircular pieces to the rounded sides of your cakes, creating a heart shape.
